Troop 439 was formed in April 1951 by the United Methodist Men of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Kensington MD. Since that time, more than a thousand "T439" Scouts have participated in Troop activities designed to build Scouting skills, leadership experiences, and friendships. Over the years, T439 Scouts have participated in international and national Scouting Jamborees; Philmont backpacking treks; long-distance cycling trips; and weekend hiking, canoeing and camping trips. In 2009 and 2010, the Troop won the coveted "Troop of the Week" award at Camp Bowman at the Goshen Scout Reservation. And, in keeping with Scouting's mission and goals, the Troop regularly performs conservation and community service projects throughout the area.
Approximately 50 young men currently are registered in Troop 439, which meets Monday evenings at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Kensington. Mission Statement: Boy Scout Troop 439 exists to serve boys by instilling values, preparing them to make ethical choices over their lifetime, and enabling them to achieve their full potential. We accomplish this by working toward three aims: citizenship; moral strength and character; and development of physical, mental and emotional fitness. Our values are based upon the Scout Oath and Law.
